The Swanson Buick GMC dealership is a family-owned business, which means that the enthusiasm for cars seeps into every member. Our owner John Swanson expresses his passion for cars by showing off the latest in Buick and GMC vehicles to his customers. His son, teenager Matt Swanson, embraces his passion for cars in another way-through racing.

Though Matt is just barely old enough to have his driver's license, he has already had quite the range of experience as a race car driver. His racing days started way back in 2008 when he was just eight years old. He would compete at places like Little T Speedway and Silver City Speedway, and would bring home wins and tons of great experience. In 2012, Matt raced in 50 Quarter midget races, won 25 events, as well as earning 2 USAC Nationals 4 Track Records. In 2014, he began his modified touring series career, competing in the Tri-Track Open Modified Series.

By the age of 15, before most of his peers were even driving to school, Matt had begun competing in high-level asphalt modified racing. His experience-as well as the support of his family back at the Swanson Buick GMC dealership-helped him to earn top-10 finishes in many of his races. 

One of Matt's latest accomplishments was winning the Sunoco Rookie of the Year award at just the age of 16 in 2016. But these exciting strides in Matt's race car driving career are just the beginning of an exciting story, one that will continue to be fueled by a passion for driving and the Swanson family's love of cars.

You might sometimes be able to catch Matt at the dealership, and if not, you're sure to see signs of his influence on the family business. Just recently he had is race car on display at Swanson Buick GMC for a Toys for Tots collection project.
